Ever since the proposition of the plan, over a decade has passed and now we embrace the official opening of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University (“Library Branch”) .
Prince Bader Al Saud, Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visited Peking University and the Library Branch.
The opening ceremony of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University was held.
The building of the Library Branch was officially completed during the visit of King Salman of Saudi Arabia to China. King Salman attended the ceremony and delivered a speech.
King Abdulaziz Public Library and Peking University formally signed the Operation, Management and Maintenance Agreement of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University, clarifying the operating system and management structure of the Library Branch and further specifying the relevant provisions of the rights and obligations of both parties.
The foundation stone was laid.
The construction of the Library Branch was officially launched by Shanxi Sixth Construction Group Co., Ltd.
Dr. Zaid, Deputy Supervisor General of King Abdulaziz Public Library, visited Peking University and signed the designing scheme of the Library Branch with Mr. Zhu Qiang, former Director of the Library Branch.
King Abdulaziz Public Library and Peking University signed the Agreement on the Establishment, Operation and Management of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University, stipulating the mission and aim of the Library Branch, the rights and obligations of Party A and Party B, and other related content.
The then Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Saudi Arabia, and under the joint witness of King Abdullah and President Hu, King Abdulaziz Public Library and Peking University signed the Memorandum of Understanding between King Abdulaziz Public Library in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Peking University in the People’s Republic of China for the Establishment of a Branch of the Library in the University, which clearly stipulates the establishment of a branch of King Abdulaziz Public Library at Peking University that shares a building with the Chinese Rare Books Library. The Library Branch turned out to be one of the five Sino-Saudi cooperation projects signed by President Hu Jintao during his visit.
The former Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz paid a visit to China, during which he proposed the establishment of a branch of King Abdulaziz Public Library in China as an effort to promote the cultural and knowledge communication between China and Saudi Arabia.
