Seminar on Arabic Literature Resources Editing Held Successfully


On April 28, 2022, the seminar on Arabic literature resource acquisition was held on schedule by the CALIS Management Center and King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University in a combination of offline and online manner.

Zhang Meiping, Deputy Director of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University, delivered a speech first, welcoming all the guests and participants and giving a brief introduction of the branch library.

The meeting was chaired by Yu Shuangxiang, Director of Service Department of CALIS Management Centre, and Shen Zhenghua, CALIS Quality Control Specialist and Editorial Consultant of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University. Chen Ruijin of CALIS Management Centre introduced the construction and development of online cooperative cataloguing of minority language literature resources in CALIS. Wang Jing, Director of Cataloguing Department, Beijing Foreign Studies University Library, Zhao Honglin, Deputy Research Librarian, Zhongshan University Library, Zhu Meihua, Deputy Director of Literature Collection Department, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Library, Tian Meimei, Director of Business Services Department, King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University, Du Yanai, and Interview Librarian, Gao Feng, were invited to make wonderful sharing at the conference. The speakers reported on the business of collecting and editing minority language documents of each university libraries and their work experiences in their respective long-term business practices. Sun Ke, Sales Manager of China Book Import and Export (Group) Co Ltd, Fei Xiangping, Director of Import Division of China Education Book Import and Export Co Ltd, and Huang Xiangyun, Director of Digital Resources Department, briefly described and analysed the book publishing industry in Arabic-speaking countries, the channels and current services of Arabic literature resources providing respectively.

Finally, Mr. Shen Zhenghua summarised the seminar, analysing the difficulties and countermeasures of Arabic literature cataloguing with examples and answering some questions previously raised by member libraries.

This was the first time CALIS held the seminar on Arabic literature editing, attracting 130 participants from 48 member units. The participants generally expressed that the long time anticipation and excitement; although it was mainly conducted online, the meeting was very informative and fruitful, and will play an important role in guiding the future work of Arabic and other minority language literature resources editing in all libraries.

The CALIS Management Centre and the King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University attached great importance to this seminar and made thorough preparations before it. The seminar winned a great success as it facilitated in-depth exchanges between member libraries and exceeded expectations.
