On May 21, 2019, in order to promote all librarians’ understanding of Arab culture and enhance their professionalism and service awareness, King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University (“Library Branch”) specially invited Ms. Yuan Lin, teacher from the Arabic Language Department of PKU School of Foreign Languages, to the Library Branch and give a lecture on Arab culture.

The topics of this lecture centered on Arab society, culture, etiquette and others. Ms. Yuan first expressed her appreciation over the desire of the librarians to study Arab culture, and then elaborated on the Arab world and Islamic culture, gave a rough introduction of Arab countries, and explained the natural environment, economic development, and social conditions of the Arab world point by point. The contents involving Arabic language, tribes, customs, Islamic values, ethics, and social norms were very detailed and greatly helped the librarians to gain a deeper understanding of Arab culture.

Rich in content and practical in use, the training effectively improved all librarians' understanding of Arab culture, and would help them better perform their duty and provide enhanced services. The training was wrapped up in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
