On the morning of December 21, 2018, the Second Board Meeting of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University (“Library Branch”) was held at Peking University (“PKU”). Delegates present at the meeting included: Hao Ping, President of PKU; Wang Bo, Vice President of PKU; Faisal Bin Muaammar, Supervisor General of King Abdulaziz Public Library (“KAPL”); Abdulkareem Al Zaid, Deputy Supervisor General of KAPL; Ahmed Muwaleed, Charge d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in China; Walid Sheila, Deputy CEO of Saudi Aramco Asia; Li Yuning, Secretary-General of Peking University Education Foundation; Fu Zhiming, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages of PKU; Lin Fengmin, Director of the Arabic Language Department of PKU, and the heads of other relevant departments. The Board Meeting was chaired by Zheng Qingwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of PKU Library.

Delegates and student representatives

At the Board Meeting, Hao Ping first welcomed Faisal Bin Muaammar and other Board members of the Library Branch. He noted that the Library Branch embodied the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Saudi Arabia and served as a symbol of the cultural exchanges between China and the Arab region. He hoped that the Library Branch would further consolidate the intellectual and cultural exchanges between China and Saudi Arabia and strengthen the cultural and academic bonds of the two countries.

Faisal expressed his appreciation for the warm reception of PKU, the support provided by the leaders and governments of China and Saudi Arabia, and the attention that PKU paid to the establishment of the Library Branch. He said that the Main Library would continue to strengthen its support to the operation and development of the Library Branch which was expected to grow into a common intellectual and cultural center of the two countries and play a better role in the cultural exchanges between China and Saudi Arabia by the combined efforts of both sides.

The Board approved the appointment of Zheng Qingwen as the new Director of the Library Branch, overviewed the work of the Library Branch in 2018, and also deliberated and reached consensus on the key tasks and cultural activities of the Library Branch in 2019.
