The young elites delegation from the Saudi Asian Business and Cultural Training Program visited Peking University


On October 16, 2019, More than twenty young elites from Saudi Aramco visited Peking University. The delegation visited King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University and had a colloquia with representatives of both faculty and students of the Arabic Department of Peking University. The colloquia was hosted by Fu Zhiming, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Peking University.

Professor Fu Zhiming first welcomed the delegation and introduced the 120 years history of Peking University as well as the basic situation of teaching and research. Professor Lin Fengmin, Head of the Arabic Department of Peking University, introduced the history, development status, discipline construction and research achievements of the Arabic Department of Peking University, and showed the internationalization planning and practical achievements .

Afterwards, representatives from Saudi Aramco held a lively discussion with Peking University teachers and students under the chairmanship of Dr. Lian Chaoqun from the Arabic Department. The delegation asked questions about the students’ motivation, their studies and their professional career paths. Undergraduate students Li Rufei and Chen Tingxi, Master students Li Junlin, Peng Yuan and Cao Yuting and PhD student Wen Jing all responded to the questions and had a lively exchange with the delegation members on various aspects of culture, politics, business and language.

Before the meeting, Fu Zhiming, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Peking University, also show the delegation around to visit the campus of Peking University and gave a detailed introduction about the statue of Cai Yuanpei, Weiming Lake, Boya Tower and the Stone Boat, etc. The guests were very impressed by the profound cultural heritage and the beautiful environment.

Saudi Aramco is an integrated energy and chemical products company and the world's largest exporter of crude oil. Headquartered in Dhahran in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia, it also has subsidiaries in several countries around the world and employs 51,653 Saudi nationals and 10,254 expatriate employees. Saudi Aramco has been a major player in the Chinese energy market since the early 1990s, when it began supplying crude oil to the country with offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen.

The Saudi Asian Business and Culture Training Programme is an important part of Aramco's talent development, sending young elites to study around the world every year. In the past two years, the company has made China, Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries an important destination for youth training, hoping to focus the company's future development on the East as well. As China has been an important development target for them, they hope to attract more young people to learn about China and get to know China and establish a wider scope of cooperation with China in the future.
