The Fifth Board Meeting is Convened at King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University


At 2:30 p.m. on December 16, 2021, the fifth board meeting of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University (“Library Branch”) was convened in the conference room of the Library Branch, taking the form of online video conference. Attendants of the meeting included: Faisal Muaammar, Chief Director of King Abdulaziz Public Library; Abdullah Bin Tawara, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Saudi Embassy in China; Abdulkareem Zaid, Deputy Chief Director of King Abdulaziz Public Library; Anwar Hegazi, President of Aramco Asia; Mohammed Ajlan, Vice President of Saudi-Chinese Business Council; Wang Bo, Vice President of Peking University; Fu Zhiming, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Qiang Shigong, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; and Xia Hongwei, Dean of the Office of International Relations. The meeting was presided over by Zheng Qingwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University Library and Director of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University.

Wang Bo delivered a speech on behalf of President Hao Ping, the rotating president of the board. He mentioned that after nearly four years of operation, the Library Branch has made steady progress in all aspects, and its influence has increased year by year. Peking University is willing to cooperate with King Abdulaziz Public Library to operate the Library Branch together, jointly promote the resource sharing and academic exchanges between China and Saudi Arabia in the teaching and research of Arabic language and culture, and foster the integration and mutual learning of the two civilizations.

Faisal said in his speech that during the normalization of the pandemic prevention and control, the practice of Peking University and the Library Branch ensured the smooth operation of the Library Branch as well as the safety of the librarians. He thanked Peking University for its attention and support to the Library Branch, and hoped that the two sides will make more efforts to promote cultural exchanges between China and Saudi Arabia.

The board fully affirmed the Library Branch’s work and performance in 2021, reviewed and approved the Library Branch’s work plan for 2022 (including the cultural activity plan), and hoped that the Library Branch will make active contributions to the coming 2022 China-Saudi Arabia Cultural Exchange Year. The board also reviewed and approved the annual budget for 2022, and signed the 2022 fund agreement.
