On February 21, Prince Bader Al Saud, Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visited Peking University (“PKU”) accompanied by Turki Almadi, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to China, and Faisal Bin Muaammar, Supervisor General of King Abdulaziz Public Library (“KAPL”). Qiu Shuiping, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the School Affairs Committee of PKU, met with the guests at the Linhuxuan building . Vice President of PKU Tian Gang also attended the meeting.

Qiu Shuiping warmly welcomed Prince Bader’s visit, noting that cultural exchanges and communication would help deepen mutual understanding and form a stronger bond between the two countries. He also stated that China and Saudi Arabia had close relations and frequent cultural exchanges, and the establishment of King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University (“Library Branch”) well represented the booming cultural exchange programs between the two countries. Qiu Shuiping expressed his appreciation to the Saudi side for actively advancing the construction of the Library Branch. He hoped that in the future, more PKU students would visit Saudi Arabia and more young people from Saudi Arabia would study in PKU.

Prince Bader said that he was delighted to visit PKU. He also recognized the contribution of the Library Branch had made to the Sino-Arab civilization exchange and Sino-Saudi cultural cooperation, and expressed his appreciation to PKU for its efforts to facilitate Sino-Saudi cultural exchange. He hoped that against the big picture of the connection of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030”, the cultural exchanges between the two countries would embrace the coming of a new age.

Fu Zhiming, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Zheng Qingwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of PKU Library and Director of the Library Branch, Xia Hongwei, Director of Office of International Relations, and Gu Xue, Assistant of the Director of Office of International Relations, were also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, the delegation of Prince Bader Al Saud, accompanied by Tian Gang, took a tour at King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University, and visited the “Oriental Wisdom Calligraphy Exhibition” and the “Silk Road” themed photo exhibition held in the Library Branch.
